Depends on the DVD’s.
Looking back on my experience with DVD training from Total Training (AE version 5), I would say it is still useful now. The basics of After Effects (keyframing, precomposing, layers, etc.) are all the same. The new versions have added things like brainstorming (an odd, but delightful toy), the puppet tool, better trackers, more effects, and stuff, but the underlying principles are the same.
There have been some workflow enhancements and the addition of HD (and all of the accompanying craziness) is something you will need to also learn about, but I would say your DVDs are probably still useful. Again, it depends on how well they were produced.
