    OK – I’m 4 weeks old on fcp

    I have a 30 minute show to put together using fcp.

    I tried to look at old posts to see if my questions would be answered but I really am pushing the time limit. So i’m sorry if these have been answered already.

    Anyway here they are;

    1. I imported an .mov i created in another nle using sorenson 3 codec – i noticed that after i imported into the bin and placed it on the video track I have to render it everytime I do something to it even if I trim it or move it on the timeline. Is there a special way i need to import those types of files so I don’t have to re-render everytime? The clip is about 10-15 seconds long but I trimmed it to 5 sec.

    2. In my other nle i am able to subclip multiple tracks acting as a single track allowing me to manipulate every track at the same time. i.e. fade up every track or have the subclip move from left to right as the clips dissolve from one to the other. so how do I do that in fcp?

    Those are probably my main concerns right now. I have others but I’m trying to read manuals, watch tutorials and put this show together at the same time.

    TIA

    Sam

    Shane’s Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?

    Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.

    However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.

    The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.

    Once you do this, you
