August 16, 2010 at 11:29 pmHey,
I can’t access the free plug-ins or anything after installing coremelt or individual ones. I’ve tried adding it in library/apple support/… but it doesn’t seem to work. I’ve tried many different things and nothing seems to show up in my fcp under effects…does anyone know what’s happening or what i can do?

The website where you downloaded the plugins, or the download itself will have instructions on how to install … you’re really meant to read those instructions you know!
If you can’t find the instructions then please detail with specific detail which free plugins you are trying to use as there are a few different locations where they should be installed depending on the plugin type (FxPlug, FxScript, FxFactory etc)
Cheers

August 17, 2010 at 3:06 amOh and it’s Fxfactory. I went back and looked at download instructions. still having no luck. I’m doing a project for a non-profit organization, creating a introduction video for their new website. I really wanted to use some of the interesting effects like the 3d shatter and what not. If you could point me in the right direction it’d be helpful.
thanks for any help

August 17, 2010 at 4:16 amFxFactory plugins (“.fxpack”) live in the /Library/Application Support/Noise Industries folder … they are managed by the FxFactory application (/Applications/FxFactory) … open FxFactory and you can enable / disable already installed plugins plus it links directly to their website where you can browse for and download new FxFactory based plugins
Alternatively if you’re still having trouble using the FxFactory app then you can also check out Jon Chappell’s excellent “FCS Maintenance Pack” which is a great suite of tools for helping you manage and troubleshoot your Final Cut Studio equipped workstation … it includes a Plug In Manager helper application. A fully functional 15 day free demo is available ( so even if you don’t have the resources to buy it right now, you’ll probably be able to leap frog the problem you’re facing at the moment … then buy it when you’re in a better position to do so 🙂 )
Best of luck … and remember when you’re using those effects that the golden rule is “less is more”.
Cheers

August 17, 2010 at 5:32 pmHey Andy,
Nothing seems to be working. The maintenance pack shows that i’ve installed plug-ins but they don’t show up anywhere in my effects tab in fcp. Might just be a hopeless case now.
Thanks for all your help,
Prasheel.
