newb question on using pal widescreen from digi beta etc
hi all,
i having problems with knowing the correct settings for FCPro 5.1.2. i’m importing pal widescreen footage from a digigibeta deck via a black magic interface and using an edl.
in audio video settings i’ve got seq preset and capture preset set to blackmagic 8bit. and in device control i’ve got blackmagic pal 25 hz.
in sequence/settings i’ve got pixel aspect ratio set to pall -ccir 601 (720×576) and anamorphic 16:9 ticked.
trouble is when i drag footage on to the timeline it goes in as 4:3. if i untick the 16:9 box in seq settings it goes in ok but i’m viewing the seq incorrectly.
i could untick it everytime i need to bring in footage but that seems wrong.
there seems so many settings for this kind of thing (i’m used to avid symphony) i’m not sure what i need to change.
also how do i make the viewer window 16:9?
so, to sum up, what do i need to do to get both viewer and canvas windows 16:9 and the footage to digitise and drag over correctly?

When you drag footage to the project window you have to scroll to the right in the project window and put a check mark under the ‘anamorphic’ sign

Hi there,
The viewer window will resize automatically depending if you open a 4;5 or 16:9 clip, so,You need to change you capture setting. Go to Audio/video settings in the FCP menu. Under capture settings, duplicate the one you have been using, with the right input codec etc. Click on ‘edit’ and in that window you should see an anamorphic tick box. Tick it. Then rename and save that setting as Blackmagic…Digibeta… etc ‘Anamorphic’. You will now have this extra setting anytime you want to use 16:9 capture from digi. By the way you can change clips from 4:3 to anamorphic in the browser window by highlighting them all and click on the anamorphic column. Change them al at once.
FCP handles Aspect Ratio a lot smarter than Avid.
