newb question: a few color correction questions!
Ok I have some old footage I am trying to clean up. One clip was filmed in a kitchen under flourecent light…it looks very yellow…what can I do to correct this? Also, I have footage of my brother coming home on leave from Germany…I filmed at the airport (this was back in the 80’s) and the footage was really dark…any ideas hoe to lighten without it looking too bad? And my last color correction question…I have footage of outside shots that seem to look blueish in color….any thoughts?

Well technically you can do anything using ‘curves’ and ‘hue sat’, but it’s as intuitive for color correction as a one legged cat tryin’ to bury turds on a frozen pond.
Hopefully Adobe will come to their senses and realize that a lot of folks use AE for VIDEO and not still photos and give us a built in color corrector for video.
Okay rant aside. You can either open levels and adjust the individual channels to white balance the image (not intuitive). Or use levels just under RGB mode and get your luminance correct. Then open Color Balance and adjust to eye first starting with your gammas (midtones) and dial the levels away from the yellow tint. Then do your shadows and highlights till things look good to you. If you had to crank up a lot of contrast (like from correcting your dark video using levels) then you will want to add a hue/sat and drop the master saturation to look normal again.
Of course you could use Color Finesse with AE 6.5 as well, but if you are new to the game it can be daunting. Although it is by far the best tool for the job.
