I just set up my second Xserve and it’s showing a significant read speed decrease from my other Xserve which has been running very nicely over the past year.

The settings are exactly the same, even have switched the fibre cards, fibre cables, all raid admin settings are the same, as well are the Disk utility settings and it’s results come up the same test after test.

My new Xserve was an Apple Factory referbushed unit with a full one year warrenty, but is very slow.

all settings: each Xserve identical at 5.6TB, raid 50, pci x fibre cards, all the obvious done, Journaling off, raid admin identical etc.

    Kona System test, 4GB, 1920×1080

old Xserve: 183 write, 255 read
new Xserve: 179 write, 167 read

combined 4 way raid 50, all four raid 5 partitions brought into disk Utility and made a 4 way raid 50

the combined speed: 365 write and 297 read,

It’s plenty fast enough for 10bit uncompressed RGB lin 444, I tested it all night and it seems fine, digitizes fully uncompressed 10bit 444 easily, plays back and scrubs fine..

I’m just frustrated and wondering if this means that there’s trouble ahead….

    Thanks, Keith C
