The systems listed above sound good if you can afford it. For other people an off the shelf system might work OK.

[Shane Ross] “Amost..that i7 processor isn’t as fast as a Xenon”

The i7s have Quick Sync but the new Xeons have AVX-512. The Canon Lake CPU are supposed to get the AVX-512 instruction set. Having said that the consumer CPUs often offer a better bang for the buck. There is no doubt in my mind the system below will hold it’s own against an entry level iMac Pro.

    unfortunately no such cpu exists.

AE likes 4 cores at a really high clock speed. premiere likes 10 cores at a really high clock speed and c4d (render) likes 20 cores with dual gpu’s. c4d (design, animation) likes high freq 8700k because it only utilizes a single core.

closest you could get for all three would be a really expensive 7940x.

    budget is not an problem

i also like new W series

    W Series

    W-2155 with 10 core 13.75M L3 Cache and 3.3 Ghz 4.5 Ghz Turbo Boost
    W-2195 with 18 Core 24.75M L3 Cache and 2.6 Ghz 4.5 Ghz Turbo Boost

    Gold Series

    Intel® Xeon® Gold 6136 Processor (3 GHz, up to 3.7 GHz w/Turbo Boost, 24.75 MB cache, 2666MHz, 12 core)
    Intel® Xeon® Gold 6140 Processor (2.3 GHz, up to 3.7 GHz w/Turbo Boost, 24.75 MB cache, 2666 MHz, 18 core)

The gold series is clocked too low for design/graphics hybrid workstations. The W-2195 would have more cores for c4d rendering but slower in the other apps.

if you must have EEC memory, I’d go with the W-2155 as it is the most comparable to 7940 series although 1% slower and more expensive.

does L3 Cache memory means alot ?

Manish, if you are going to use one (1) processor don´t buy a computer with two processor sockets since the price goes up drastically. Buy a two socket computer only if you buy it with two processors. ☺

If you plan to use one (1) processor, aim for a workstation with one (1) processor socket. ☺

For HP, look at the Z4 and for DELL i am not sure what model they have. (5820?) Unfortunately the Z4 is not on sale yet, but if you can wait you will save lot´s of money.
