    hey there!!

i need guidance on the following purchase,

im just about to get my self an
    iMac Quad core(# 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7- 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 4x2GB – 1TB Serial ATA Drive-ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB) + G-TECH G-RAID 2TB – GEN4 FW800/E-SATA/USB2.0

    (see article https://www.salonprosales.com/gtech-graid-2tb-gen4-fw800esatausb20-p-1396.html?zenid=rg0km4rhim7g5fu5v3qsbnlei5)

i was thinking about getting the Mac Pro but it is obviously cheaper..
and im on a budget at the moment…

my aim is to edit some trailers from some AVI files to start up with
and to get around FCP ( as i made music for many years on Logic Pro, i want to move on to editing Images now)

and also i will be editing some DVCAM footage/rushes.

Is the RAID going to work out well through the FW800?

Would you be advising me to go ahead with my thoughts?

    many thanks!

the sooner you can advise me the better;-)

not entirely related to your question, but…

one thing i’d suggest is to wait a bit, if you can, until the mac pro is released. rumors are calling for a late may/early june date and following the drop of the new ones the older models, which will still rock, will be discounted greatly on apple outlet as well as other retailers, etc.

    just a thought.

Do a search on iMac on this forum. There has already been a lot of discussion on the pros and cans of the iMac.
