    Hi Everyone,

So normally I edit with Final Cut Pro but I’m trying to get my feet wet in the Avid world. I bought Media Composer 3.5 over the summer with the student discount (thank god for it) and I haven’t had much of a reason to toy with it so I haven’t done much. I will be working with it though in December so I am trying my best to learn the program as well as I can in the next month.

    My two questions are these:

    1) How do I set up my Avid to use dual screen editing? That is, how would I use an HD monitor for viewing? (I am editing on a 15″ MacBook Pro Unibody from 2008 – With the ExpressCard 34 port and removable battery)

    2) How do I remove 3:2 pulldown from P2 DVCPRO HD footage? 24PA?

    Thanks a bundle!
    Matt

[Matthew Sonnenfeld] “1) How do I set up my Avid to use dual screen editing? That is, how would I use an HD monitor for viewing?”

Well, you are a bit confused here. DUAL SCREEN EDITING means two WORKSPACE monitors. One for bins, one for the timeline. That is fairly easy as all you need to do is add a monitor to the system. You have a DVI port.

As for an HD monitor for proper monitoring, you’ll need to get the MOJO DX for that. That is the only device that works with a laptop and Avid MC. Then you’ll need to get the monitor. This isn’t a cheap proposition. The MOJO runs $4000, and then there’s the cost of the monitor.

[Matthew Sonnenfeld] “2) How do I remove 3:2 pulldown from P2 DVCPRO HD footage? 24PA?”

I haven’t done that yet…GOOD QUESTION. I want to know too. but I am sure a search of the forum for that question will get results.

AHHH…..Avid can’t do this internally. You need to get DV Films MXFX program to do it.

Avid…you got SO MANY THINGS RIGHT…why can’t you remove pulldown? But then again, FCP doesn’t have native MXF support, nor import all that metadata without third party help…
