Hi, I’m putting a 60-min video together on a recent trip to Japan and want to sort out the somewhat confusing (for a newbie) advices I’ve read on correct new project properties settings. Could someone please comment if these PAL Video settings will be appropriate:

    Vegas 9.0 Pro
    Canon HV30
    Recording setup HDV(PF25)

    Video template:HDV 1080-50 (1440×1080, 25fps)
    Field Order: Upper field first
    Pixel aspect ratio: 1.3333(HDV 1080)
    Pixel format: 8 bit
    Render quality: Best
    Motion blur type: Gaussian
    Deinterlace method: Blend field

Also, should “Adjust source media to better match project or render settings” box be checked?

    Thank you
    Bob

The HDV 1080-50i (1440×1080, 25fps) template is correct for PAL HDV. If PF25 is progressive you can change the field order of your project to None (Progressive) to match. The other settings look correct.

Whether you use the “Adjust source media to better match project or render settings” option shouldn’t matter in your case because your source matches your project.

Sorry, forgot one question. If my camera recording setting had been HDV and not HDV(PF25), should the ‘Deinterlace method’ in properties be “Blend fields”? If not, what?
    Thanks again. Bob

I never said anything about changing the deinterlace method. Never change the deinterlace method unless you are having problems.

If you shoot HDV instead of HDV(PF25) keep your Field Order at Upper field first. This is the default for the HDV 50i preset.
