    Hi all
Im looking at fixing up my pc a bit and top of the shopping list is a new processor. Ive had a look in the FAQs but couldnt quite find the info i was after.

Can anyone recommend a processor that is guaranteed to work with AE CS3? I know there are some comaptibility issues with CS3 and some of the newer chips? What do i need to look out for when buying a new one??? Im also looking for something that will keep my rendering times down a bit.

If this has already been done to death, my apologies.

    cheers
    i

Not 100% sure about CS3 compatibility, but AFAIK Intel quad Xeons or the new quad AMD chips (or 2 x dual Opterons) will give you pretty snazzy performance. Obviously it depends massively on the rest of your system (mobo, RAM, GFX card, etc) as to which chips you can go for.

ON the cheaper side there’s stuff like Intel Core 2 Duos and AMD Athlon 64 X2 chips. I’m hoping to get hold of a Socket 939 version of one of the AMD chips…but I’ve been 2 months waiting from Ebay! Grrr.. Wish I could just get a whole new system.

    *Production Studio Premium CS2 / *Combustion 3 / Mocha v1

    Win XP Pro SP2 / Intel P4 3GHz / 2GB RAM / GeForce FX5200 / DeckLink Pro / Roland DS-5 monitors / Sony BVM-20G1E / DVS SDI Clipstation / Wacom Intuos 3 A4 / 110GB boot/80GB media/600GB RAID-0

It all depends on what you’re willing to spend.

At the moment the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 is the best bang for the buck, easily.
