I’m in looking into upgrading my old dual G4 1.25 and FCP 4.5 with a new MacPro. I was thinking about the dual 2.6 with at least 4GB of RAM. I’ll be using mostly FCP and DVDSP. I also am looking into Episode Pro. Right now my computer has 4 internal 120 GB harddrives, 1 for the OS, 2 for stored media and 1 for capture. I also have an external 400 GB Lacie. My question is: What should I get for harddrives and how should I configure them? Should I go with only External? G-tech 500 GB? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I would go with 4 internal one for the system and three set up as a raid 0

the SATA raid will knock the socks off of any external FW drive

as far as size, that all depends on how nuch storage you want and can afford 4 500’s would be awsome.

One thing to knote is that you will need to take advantage of the FCP crossgrade soon so that you will have a version of FCP that will run on the MacPro (the intel processor needs the universal verson of FCP)

Shane I have a Macbook Pro 2.16 with FCP. I want to use the express slot with firmTec adapter. I do some DVCPRO HD editing. How are the G-Tech esata 500 gb drives.

Am I to understand that I will have to buy the crossgrade if I buy a Mac pro and that my existing FCP5 will not function on the Intel chips?

    Thanks,

    James
