there were a few posts recently asking about macbook versus macbook pro for after effects. if anyone is still intereseted barefeats.com just posted benchmarks for the new mac book pro and compared the the previous mb pro, a macbook and a macpro (4core) in photoshop, after effects, compressor and motion.

My read on that article is that there is a roughly 12% speed increase between the Macbook and Macbook Pro. Not all that impressive in my opinion, although I realize people like the pro for other more tangible reasons like the screen size, gfx card etc.

yeah, it was interesting… aside from the motion performance difference (due mostly to the gpu) it makes it a little harder to justify the price difference just for the screen size.

there was also the note at the bottom that supports what was discussed here a week or two ago, that the macbook can have 3gb of ram installed and run just fine.

Yeah, it really seems like the primary spec advantage of the Pro is the graphics card. Is that worth $1,000 more? If you need to to use Studio 2 or Maya (within OSX), you really have no choice.

A bit disappointing, and I can only guess that this was an intentional move on Apple’s part to push sales of the higher priced Pro model, otherwise they would have offered a video card upgrade for the standard Macbook.
