I agree with with peter the graphics cards are going to play a much more important role than they have in the past. I personally am waiting for the QUAD core Intel chips that have been announced(the chips are supposed to ship to computer makers by years end and the computers should ship early spring). Just think 8 Processors on 2 chips WOW!! And that combined with 2 or more SLI graphics cards ( come on apple give us SLI!!) Gives me a woody!!!

[Bret Williams] “Walter, FCP rendered at the same speed on a Xeon 2.66 as it did on a slower G5. Both took 167 seconds. So, mhz for mhz the G5 was faster in that application. In other words, if a 3ghz with the same cache version of a G5 existed, it would be faster or equal.”

Again, Apple is testing with a version of FCP that is not available to the public yet and they are showing some very nice gains in speed with FCP. So I don’t really need to see a test of 5.1.1 running on both machines. I’m going to be very interested in testing 5.2.1 on the Pro vs. the Quad when Apple releases it.

    *HUGS*

Will everyone just relax? It’s a computer for Cryssakes. Go edit, have fun, stop worrying about cache and your bench press, I mean bench tests. A faster computer to me means less break time which means more projects which means more money which means less time to enjoy the money which means all work and no play makes Jeremy a dull boy which means i cant find my happy place which means i want a slower computer for my break time

See where i’m going with this? Relax. Buy the thing if you want, don’t buy if you don’t. We’ll all be okay.

    Moi Peter?

Sorry I missed you at Tour de France. Got paid to do nothing (literally) for 4 hours – then left. Ah, EVS work.

Just FYI, we (GenArts) just released Sapphire 1.08 with universal binary support for all Intel/PPC AE hosts, including FCP 5.1. Check it out at https://www.genarts.com/download-sapphire-ae-mac.html.
