Since the bandwidth for HD is limited does that mean that any HD editing realtime FX will have to be rendered into the Apple codec before it can be output? I mean if FCP is outputting the timeline as uncompressed during realtime processing then there would be no way to fit that down the FW800 pipe.

Since the device is external I see one of two things that could happen.
1. We will have to render our entire project to make sure all FX are in the new Apple codec. This would make it sort of like how DV editing used to be where all FX had to be rendered to DV before they could output through firewire.
2. FCP 6 converts on the fly through software into the Apple codec during playback of the timeline. This of course uses up resources because the system is rendering to the codec on the fly but then we wouldn’t have to wait to render first.

I think the ProRes422 is cool, but it would make more sense to me just to add a SDTI for Native ingest of HDcam footage and support Mixed timeline of HDcam and DVCpro HD. This box seems to be geared more for the Film guys.

Nevermind to what I said, I read the white papers on the FCP6 site and looks good. However I would still like to see Native HDcam editing. Unfortunately Xpri is the only one that does this.

xpri is dead and currently only quantel can handle native HDCam.

Excellent product…not sure how I can work it in to my LH’s and IO’s yet, but I’ll figure it out! 🙂 Question… with LTC Timecode I/O does that mean we can finally have realtime TC out of FCP into a Beta deck?? In other words, hit record on the deck, play on the timeline, and IOHD will send audio, video, AND timecode?? And I hopefully assume “chase” TC from the timeline to a monitor from a deck or other device??

That would be huge.
