New harddrive in macbook but wich ??

Unfortunately I cant upgrade to a macbook pro right now so I need a new disc for my macbook and FCP. I have found this quite interesting disk, the Seagate Momentum XT

It looks great but I am not sure if it will have an effect on video since that off course is very large files that is moved a lot. Anyway what do you think about a combined SSD/standard disc like this for video editing ?

Remember one of the cardinal rules of video editing. NEVER edit from your system drive. Get a standard laptop hard drive (they are cheeper then that one) and a good fast external drive for your media.

Thanks for that info.
I will invest in a drive for the external media. Hopefully the caldigit VR raid system, BUT my macbook only have firewire400.
The internal drive allthough being a bit more expensive It seems it speeds up a lot of operations, including opening programs, booting systems etc :0). I think i will do it just because my macbook will feel a bit upgraded that way, the macbook pro upgrade has been put on a hold right now unfortunately.

You can buy quite a few 2.5″ sata drives for the price of one SSD.
Bottom line, you are going to be spending more money in the long run if you buy a SSD. Save for the MBPro.

But its not a SSD….. Its a hybrid where a 4 gb SSD is working alongside a standard 500GB disc.
