New Hard Drive Cost versus Benefits
Hi Guys,
Just a simple question. I use Production Studio Cs4 just for family and friends benefit. Mainly use After Effects, Premiere and Photoshop. Have been able to get away with using it on a Toshiba laptop the specs of which are,
250 Gb 5400rpm Sata hard drive,
3 Gb DDR 2 Ram
Ati radeon HD2600 graphics card.
Windows Vista 32 bit premium.I am currently considering buying 320 Gb 7200rpm hard drive and wondering whether the benefits i receive will be worth the £70 cost. As i said i only use it for pleasure and dont generally mind that at times its slow at certain tasks, but wondering if upgrade will help with this.

Another drive is a good idea.
Adobe recommends 3 drives. 1 – OS & Apps, 2 – Projects, 3 – Source Files.
In Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. you would be utilizing these as Scratch Disks, in Preferences.
You would do a similar setup with Premiere.It feels great to start working with multiple drives.
All of my extra drives are internal, I only use an external for backup. So, I can’t speak to configuring an external drive for video.
Faster is better. I could be mistaken, but USB 2.0 on paper appears to be faster than FireWire, but in video where data rates are both high and constant, I believe FireWire is better. Or, maybe you have a faster interface available??Hope this helps..
