Could it be they used Seagates in that box? Have a look at the strange results they got with those over at barefeats…

Seems to be it has to be something to do with the interface because the bandwith just disappears as soon as another drive is connected. So wouldn’t that point you to the loop through Firewire connection, moreso than the drives?

Though that certainly could explain why the empty G-RAID2 1000 is slower than a 75% full G-RAID 500.

Very very odd thing all around.

OK…I got my hands on a 1TB G-Raid. What do you use to test the bandwidth?

AJA System Test. I have it connected directly to the back of the Mac Pro Quad 3.0. I’ll be real interested too if you’re running it off a G5 machine.

Run it by itself, then connect another FW800 drive to it and run the test again. Also test the other FW800 drive.

And make sure it’s a G-RAID2 model. Mine came in a blue box, with a small 2 next to the name which I guess signifies the newer model. Not sure if the 1TB came in an original model.

Ooooooh….crud. No, this is an original G-Raid model. My producer has all the P2 MXF files stored on it and I was going to start backing them up to a less expensive medium for shipment to THC. So it not being a G-Raid 2 will make this moot.

    Sorry.

    Walter,
Was this ever resolved? I was about to choose this drive for some work that I have in the near future but didn’t want to have any issues working with multiple drives. I will start off with one but I would hate to limit my options later in life. Thanks in advance!

To my knowledge, no. I’m running the CalDigit S2VR HD model now and will be phasing our original G-RAID’s out of the shop as we transition more to SATA. We’re running a combination of LaCie Biggest S2S SATA and CalDigit SATA primarily now. We still have two original G-RAID’s and two LaCie Big Disk Extremes we use primarily in backup roles now and for small corporate gigs.
