New free plugin for Final Cut: Inside-Outside Matte
Given that people would like more control over matte feathering, I’ve come up with a replacement for the Four-Point and Eight-Point Garbage Matte filters. My version allows you to define the shape of the inside of the matte and the shape of the outside of the matte.

Preview mode:
You can set how many steps appear between the inside and outside shapes.
You can also choose between 3 and 8 points for the matte:
