New feature doc using FCPX 10.0.6- a liberating experience
Just finished a feature documentary using FCPX 10.0.6 and it was a liberating experience. I estimate i saved several weeks, yes weeks, in time using FCPX vs. FCP7. The skimming method saved me alot of time going through all the field footage and the intuitive editing modal really helped me fly.I had used it before on industrials and spots, but I think it is much better for a longer narrative format. Here is a trailer for the show:

Quick question: Obviously, some of the footage was archived on tape. What do you do to get the footage into X?

I would love to hear his answer on this too, but you can use AJA VTR XChange or Blackmagic Media Express to capture from a VTR, and then import the file into FCP-X. But yea, I want to know exactly how he did it. Good question.Bob Zelin

It inspired me to contemplate the shifting sands under the phrase “feature doc” and then contemplate having a scotch.

Come on now… don’t be hating on Napa Valley!
As for the “feature” appellation, there’s a long history of “mislabeling” the contents of the bottle!
On the other hand, who hasn’t walked the isles of a wine store and chosen a bottle just because the label was appealing! So… set aside your concerns, put down the Scotch, and embrace the the wide variety of
choices now available on the shelf. (Metaphorically speaking, of course!)mark

Ahh Mark, if wine is a metaphor for un-reality shows and the Napa vintages for mis-labled docs, I’ll stay with the scotch, 12 years or more old, and infrequently as I can get hold of one.

Ah! The Russian River Valley! My family is from there. Healdsburg and Geyser Peak.

Rich- No tape used, all original photography was done to a CF card, the archival stuff was downloaded from online sources such as YouTube or iTunes, or given to me by the producers from a download site. All stills were downloaded from the net or captured by my mac.
