New computer system for PPro
I am thinking of purchasing a new computer system for PPro (1.5 currently) for DV editing. No HD yet! I found a pre-configured system from Gateway (FX530XV) with the following key metrics:
Processor: Intel Core2 Dual E6600 (2.4GHz, 1066MHz-FSB, 4MB cache, non-HT)
Motherboard: Intel 975X Chipset with DDR2 and Core Dual support
Memory: 2048MB 667MHz 2-chan DDR2 SDRAM (2-1024MB modules)
Hard drive: 500GB 7200rpm Serial ATAII/300 w/8MBcache (Raid 0, 2x250GB)
Monitor: Gateway 24in widescreen HD performance LCD 1920×1200)
Video: NDIVIA GeForce 7500LE 256MB (512MB shared)
Power Supply: 700w
OP System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)This comes in at $1999.99 plus tax and shipping.
Obviously, I would add another drive for the system and use the RAID 0 twin 250’s for the video drive. I know that the processor and the memory could be faster but that comes at about a little over a $1k premium.
I have five questions:
1.) I am uncertain why the dual processor is specified as “non-HT”. Doesn’t PPro utilize HT?
2.) Should I stick with Windows XP or is the provided VISTA home OK?
3.) I can upgrade to nVidia GeForece 7600GT 256MB DDR2DualDVITV for $79. Should I/or should I go for an even higher end video card?
4.) Should I add a sound card or just rely on the sound from the motherboard?
5.) Is it worth $220 to go to 4GB memory?
