You may want to consider a 64 bit Windows OS and maximize your RAM and get a cheaper video card (currently it doesn’t effect the performance of Vegas as it does not utilize the video card).

I don’t know what type of MOBO you are going with but my latest system is running two quad core intel chips and is an intel board and it is solid.

Oh, another thing, you may want to consider at least two hard drives (maybe 3). One for the OS. One partitioned for the programs and render files and one for the capture.

I’m not sure if I know exactly what you mean by setting up partitions and having 2 different hard drives. I’m a very good operator…not so good with the technical stuff:)

Would that be the kind of set up involving “Administrator” and “Guest” functions and sending different programs to different sides of the partitions? Vegas and Architect on Admin and render the files to the drive on “guest”?

I guess my basic question is, can I buy a system with 2 hard drives or would I have to get someone to make it for me?

For the record, you’d need a modern system if you plan on working with HD, but Vegas Pro 8 itself doesn’t really require a modern system. My desktop machine is four or five years old, and I work with DV just fine.

To set up a partition right-click “My Computer” and click “Manage”
then you will select “Disk Management” and do the partitioning and formatting there (you will want to format to NTSF not FAT 32). That’s assuming you are using XP. If you are using Vista, just do a google search for it.

It really isn’t complicated and if you do it once you’ll have it down. (and yes, you can buy them with multiple hard drives already if you are not comfortable building your own or getting a barebones system).

Once you decide on what you want, post back and we will help you set it up for editing.

Oh boy,

I think I really messed up in buying my new computer.

Well…at least the O/S.

I thought getting XP Pro 64 would be the most beneficial. It seems like I should have checked that out beforehand.
Not only did I have to remove 2G of RAM to get the fire port to capture, I now have stuttering video in preview. This was something I didn’t have on my XP32 while using Vegas Movie studio.

Should I put the 2G back in and revert to XP32 or upgrade to Vista64?
I’m so confused. I’ve read to many forums in the last 24 hours my head is going to explode.

Any help or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.
