This isn’t exactly a Kona issue but it’s something Kona users might come across, so I thought I’d post it here.

I got one of Apple’s new 4 Gb fibre channel PCIe cards a couple of days ago. However, I couldn’t get it to work correctly with a MediaVault 4105. After much trouble-shooting and research and, well, re-reading the manual, I realized that the Apple card is an x8 PCIe card. Unfortunately, I don’t have an x8 slot free in my Mac Pro. My video card needs a x16 slot, the Kona needs a x4 slot, which means I’ve only got an x4 slot left.

It’s really a shame, as the new Apple card is quieter than the old 2 Gb Apple card and it works with Bootcamp, which ATTO’s fibre channel card does not. Bummer! It seems that Apple fibre channel card is reall designed for use in an Xserver, and not in a video workstation.
