*New* AJA VTR Xchange application!
*Introducing AJA VTR Xchange 1.0*
AJA VTR Xchange is a FREE Macintosh OSX software application that allows KONA users to capture, playback, and record video and audio to and from any deck that can be interfaced with AJA’s KONA 2, LS, LH, and LHe capture cards. The software provides RS-422 deck control via a user-supplied cable (or cable provided on KONA breakout) connecting the KONA and VTR.
This new application offers capture, review, and print to tape, video and audio single clips outside of Final Cut Pro. This is perfect for motion graphics pros who need simple file I/O, as well as many other uses.
You will see that VTR Xchange is well thought out and includes many advanced features, including “JKL” keyboard support, real-time preview of KONA’s input with any currently selected compressor applied, waveform/vectorscope display, and much more. The software consists of a main control view window and several setup screens.
VTR Xchange 1.0 is available for download at our website for all current KONA 2, LS, LH, and LHe owners. Also, this application will be bundled with future KONA shipments, as a FREE application! Please note that Io compatibility is not included in this initial 1.0 version release, but is scheduled to come in future releases.
AJA VTR Xchange works with the following AJA products:
– KONA 2
– KONA LS
– KONA LH
– KONA LHeThis software application will run on any Macintosh approved for use with those AJA products.

Waveform and vectorscope… Very cool. Any chance that it will ever do sequences?

The first file we threw at VTR Xchange was 1920×1080 Animation codec, would be perfect for file layoff to tape. The app found the file “incompatible” for recording. Any plans to support HD resolution?

Another AJA freeware called KonaTV will playback Animation codec clips if you select RGBA for playback in the Display pulldown menu of that application.

VTR Xchange certainly supports HD frame sizes, as is evident in the setups shown. Animation codec and RGBA playback is scheduled for a future release. You can play RGBA Animation codec files with KONA TV, available here:

VTR Xchange 1.0 currently supports SD NTSC and PAL, and HD 720p, 1080p, and 1080i, in 8- and 10-bit uncompressed, DV25, DV50, DV100 (DVCPRO-HD), and more!
