New 15″ verses 17″ MBP
Does anyone have a preference 15″ MBP verses 17″MBP for FCP6? I checked out the hi rez 17″ display at the Apple store today — suffers from a chronic Mac display problem–underexposure. The 15″ LEDs seemed brighter with better off axis viewing, no lcd fade problems. Planning to use the laptop for P2 work, and home or hotel cutting, thinking of using a bigger monitor at home. Have access to an octo system for intensive renders and finishing.
Any advise much appreciated. A bit underwhelmed by the new offerings. -

I love my new 15″. The 17″ is nice, but I decided it was a little too big to carry around everywhere (I use my computer for both portable editing and email).
If you’re not going to be carrying with you everyday, I think a 17″ would be really nice for editing, though the 1920×1080 might not make a difference because it would make things quite small. It might not be as useful as one might think.

I carry my 17″ with me every day, usually with a lacie extreme. With the right laptop bag it’s not that bad to lug around. I love it. I have access to 6 g5 towers with 23″ cinematic displays at the office. I use my macbook over the towers most every day.
With a client monitor, the 17″ inch display is just right, I work fine with it, but wouldn’t want to go any smaller. I do at times plug into a 23″ display, if I had a 15″ display I most certainly would have to do this far more often.
If you are going to do much editing on your macbook, You will definitely appreciate every extra inch of real estate the 17″ has over the 15″
