Here is a bug in Vegas Pro 10:

Create a new project, add a media asset with audio. Now either replace the audio with something else or just add another track with some unrelated audio, lets call it audio.wav. Save as some name, lets use nested.veg. Now start a new project and drag the nested.veg into this. The place where the audio.wav event is located will not have any audio.

However, if you create the same nested.veg using V8, then nest it into a new V8 project just to create the resulting .sfap0 file (you don’t even need to save the 2nd .veg file from V8), then drag this V8 generated nested.veg into a new V10 project, it’s all good. So the resulting .sfap0 created by V10 is the culprit. This is a HUGE bug for those that use nesting, IMHO.

Sorry Jim but I can’t duplicate this.
My experience with nested vegs is that all audio and video tracks get reduced to a single video track and single stereo audio track upon re-import.
If you want to do any subsequent editing, right-click it and select the “Edit in Vegas (nested.veg)” option.

I nest projects all the time. Sometimes 2 deep. I’ve not had a problem with version 10a yet. Have you checked the mute and solo switches on your audio tracks in the nested projects?

Mike & Jeff, yes, I also have been nesting since it was introduced years ago. I have no problem with the audio going to one main track when nested, but I do need all audio tracks from the original veg to be mixed into this one track and I am not seeing (or hearing) this. I’ve tried this on two separate computers.

Can you try the project zip file I uploaded to see if you can reproduce it?
    1400_nestedv10.zip

Take the “nested v10.veg” file in the zip and drag it into a new V10 project. Is the audio there?

Also, I said the V8 generated veg will work, but it only draws the waveform, the audio isn’t actually there for me.

Jim, if I just open the file, everything is there but nest it and yes, the audio is gone.
If you want to report this to Sony, here’s the link

    Thanks Jim.
Please keep us updated on any comments from Sony on this issue.

    Jim,

I didn’t mean imply that you don’t know how to nest a project, just that I do it all the time and never heard of the error you were describing.

I did download your zip file and tested it out and the audio was indeed missing. Then, I opened your project file (instead of nesting it) and saved it to a new project name copying the media with it. When I nested the one I save it worked correctly. Something is clearly different between our two computers.

I wish I could help you out, but this is over my head.

As perhaps expected, I just received what seems like an automated response from Sony telling me that v10.0b is available and that I should try this to see if it fixes my reported bug. Alas, it does not, so I wait more weeks to see if they respond again, hopefully before v10.oc is released 🙂

I am having the same issue. When I open a nested project, some of the audio is gone when the original project has all the audio in it. I haven’t been able to find a way to fix this.

So anybody find a fix for this? I have the same issue and spent a couple hours reading with no fix ever mentioned.
