I’m working on a Mac Pro with a Kona 3 card.

seq 1: DV PAL footage edited in 8bit uncompressed timeline.

this sequence is then brought into a new 8 bit uncompressed sequence (seq 2), combined with a graphics frame and a matte. the video layer is scaled to 60%. everything looks and plays fine.

seq 2 is then bought into a master timeline, also 8bit uncompressed, and scaled to 31%.

now it looks like crap lo res footage. in all the previous iterations (sequences) it looks and plays fine.

What have i done wrong? why is there a loss of resolution in the final, master sequence? i’ve set up several projects like this and it seems like it’s occurred across all of them. is it possible that an FCP or Kona setting changed while I wasn’t looking? it all seemed fine yesterday. aye chihuahua!

Are you looking at the output on a video monitor?

Then you’re going to have to define crap and explain exactly what you’re seeing. We can’t see it from here. I would suspect the field wrong has gone wrong when the images are being repositioned, but that’s a complete guess without knowing what you’re seeing. Make sure the images are on whole integer values, and the y values on even integers.

well it’s kinda gone youtube lo rez. where in the work flow is the best place to apply the shift fields filter (1st or last seq) and the correct way to apply it? is it best to keep the sequences dv pal and just the master (last)sequence 8 bit?

    many thanx,

Man, I wish there was an edit function on this forum.

“suspect the field wrong has gone wrong”

That should read: suspect the field order has gone wrong.

You can up rez it, but make sure the fields are correct in every sequence in the nest.

    Edit:

And you are looking at a rendered output, right?

Why are you scaling this twice? I would scale it down once in the final timeline.

i’m looking at the rendered output yes.
the scaling is going to vary throughout the final sequence. that’s just the intial setting. i started this project in 5.0 and it wasn’t a problem. now that it’s in 6.0 it is? WTF?

[Andwon] “the scaling is going to vary throughout the final sequence. that’s just the intial setting.”

Again, why are you scaling twice? You say you’re scaling the video down in the Nest, then scale it down again in the final timeline. That’s probably causing some interlacing issues.

Scale the nest one time in the final timeline.
