Neon Sign
Posted by Zach Gunter on October 17, 2008 at 2:43 pmI’m Needing to create a realistic neon sign, that will be composited in live action. Just wondering if anyone has done one to give me some advice, on modeling, texture, etc.

October 18, 2008 at 6:14 amhaven’t done any myself so until someone who has chimes in you might want to look at this https://www.maxoncomputer.com/tutorial_detail.asp?tutorialID=9 it’s an *old* tutorial but the modeling stuff is valid excepting sweepNurbs didn’t exist yet and copying the texture will be different. Still some good points about construction there.

October 20, 2008 at 1:56 pmThe neon bulb is rarely the biggest part of a sign. There is nearly always a background that is lit along with it.
Are you using it for animation too, cause that will bring with it the wonderful flicker too.

November 2, 2008 at 3:01 pmThis is for a live action composite. a good flicker of it coming on would be nice, and a small little flicker as it’s on would be cool. it’s only about a 3 sec shot.
