need to upgrade graphics card

EFI Driver Version: 01.00.202i’m having problems with doing rough comps w/prores 4444 footage. can’t even do an opacity change to line up 2 layers. maybe not enough graphics card horsepower? my box has got another 12 mos life in it as a cutting station. what’s the smart play upgrading the card?

There are some options with the video card on your machine – here is what Apple list as compatible

You may find a faster graphic card helps but there are other potential bottlenecks. Whilst the faster cards in that list might offer some gain I am not sure they are going to add huge performance to straight video playback alone.
You dont say what kind of hard drives you are using.
ProRes 4444 are very large files and require fast drives to play smoothly especially more than one stream.
Just out of curiosity what kind of work are you doing with the 4444 files.
What is your storage set-up ? I wonder if that is possibly slowing you down.

xsan via fibre. playback’s not the prob. it’s trying to crop, set opacity between 2 layers, etc.
