  • Need to Separate and Rename Stereo Audio Clips Attached to Video Clips

Please excuse my noobness…I am editing a multicam/multimic project and the audio is all over the place. For each video clip that was transcoded to Apple ProRes 422, I need to be able split the two attached audio channels and rename them so that I know if it is a lav or boom mic during editing. Right now, when I drag the video clip onto the timeline, I can unlink the audio channels, but I can’t rename them.

I’m working in FCP 7, if that helps.

    Thanks.

The audio is part of the quicktime that contains the video. You can rename the quicktime file but then it will be different from the file name. It is always a good idea to have the clip and file name the same if you ever have to reconnect manually.

So no you can’t individually rename audio tracks but if you simply organise the audio so lav is always on odd tracks and boom on even tracks it will be easy to know what’s what.
