Can someone suggest a good stand alone app for reading metadata from a Canon DSLR video file? I want to get info like ISO, shutterspeed, aperture, etc.

You can use ExifTool. This is available for windows and mac. It’s command line only, but should provide what you are looking for:

E.G. on a 60D file you get loads of info (I have cut almost all of it out:
    exiftool MVI_4952.MOV
    ExifTool Version Number : 9.08

For a 7D you would run the same against the .THM file.

I use Exif Viewer which is a freebie, there are more than likely better alternatives but it’s what I use
