  • Need to Get Rid of Sony DVCAM Tapes

Posted by Thomas Hughes on October 15, 2010 at 3:21 pm

I have several hundred Sony DVCAM tapes in their cases, 64 min, 94 min, 124 min & 184 min. They’re 3-11 years old. They were used as field masters once and I need to get rid of them. They’ve been in storage and the cases are dusty. How best to get rid of these? Can they be recycled, or is there any sort of market for them? Thank you.

Does Carpel Video still take them for recycling or er-sale?

I’m always in need of 184s..
Are they clean/low pass? They might work for backup for me.

Depending on how they were stored you may not want to take the chance. I know on my DSR-570 there’s a tape test function and many older tapes tend to fail.

I just sent a big box of tapes to Carpel. I received no money for the tapes but they did pick up the postage. I found it better to send the tapes to them instead of them going into a land fill.
