  • Need to capture video from DVD and then upload to Internet…

Posted by Jerry Neal on April 22, 2008 at 5:42 pm

    Hello,

I have a commercial DVD that I need to capture with Vegas, and then render this footage to be uploaded to the Internet.

I have permission to do this so I’m not breaking any rules regarding copyright and there is no encryption or copy protection on this disk. However, I wanted to get some feedback as to the best way to accomplish this task.

I assume that I can capture this DVD with Vegas and then bring this MPEG 2 file into my timeline, correct?

Beyond this, what format/settings should I render to in order to have the best quality footage for Vimeo or another hosting site?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and comments.

    Open Vegas.

File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc

Point it to that DVD and it will pull in the video.

One problem I’ve always had with that feature is when you get a title on the disc with multiple chapter stops, it divides each chapter into its own mpeg file with a slight audio dropout right at the end. Is there any workaround for that or does Sony consider that just one of those “deal with it” issues? I just fall back on manually digitizing the footage through s-video when its an issue.

I allways import file, drop down type and select all files, then point to the DVD. there will be some VOB,(Video objects) files. depending on how long the DVD is and where in it the part you want will depend on which VOB file you should choose. Save as DV avi as Vegas will try and read and play the VOB from the DVD if you don’t save first. Then edit, and render as WMV, MPG or what ever format your puting on the web. Danny
