    Hi Guys,

Facing a little dilemma regarding whether I should render in some format compressed or should I render uncompressed first to save time then use a conversion software to get the desired format.

So basically its this, I am producing a series for both VOD over Internet and also for Broadcast purpose with OTA Channels (PAL-B). So for Broadcasters need to give them in a) Some Tape as prescribed by them unless they decide to use my rendered HD Files (1440×1080 50i). And for Web my VOD provider wants in .mov (HD) container with h.264 codec applied.

Now my time line is decently complex with 44 tracks and each shot having around 4 filters on an average…

    i) Primary Colour Corrector
ii) 2 instances of Secondary Colour Correctors (Skin Tone, Greens)
    iii) Illegal-Legal Colour Curve

I am also using Pixelan’s AnyFx for Tones (full spisode) and 3D Transitions in places.

In many places Track Motion have been used for Animation.

Now the variables are like this…

I am producing around 13 Episodes in this series and where two things will be changed quite a few times

    a) Some Names in both Series Opening Intro and Closing Credits
    b) Sponsor and Partner Names and Logos before the Opening Intro

So looking at the complexity (Tv+Web+On-the-Fly Changes)I decided on Rendering Each Episode in 4 Parts (HD 1440×1080 50i Uncompressed AVI)

    a)Sponsor and Partner Logos
    b)Opening Intro
    c)Episode Body
    d)Closing Credits

After I have done Uncompressed Renders (to save time) I am trying to convert into .m2ts files with 12000 bit-rate via Any Video Converter using x.264 codec (open source one) and bring everything on Vegas Pro (x64) again then patch up the files.

Two advantages I am seeing in this…

    a) I feel uncompressed renders will save me time… But it took me 20 hrs to render 22 minutes of episode body. But again video conversion taking 3-4 hrs or so for the same. Opening and Credit Rolls taking on an aver age 2.5 hrs to render 1min.. it has 4 track compositing and 2 layers of anyfx.

    b) My flexibility regarding changing Intros and Credit Rolls and Sponsor Logos are there.

So question is this Workflow suggested? Its taking around 30-35 hrs to Render One Episode fully Anyway! And courtesy this time taken to render I decided to stick to Studio Safe Chroma and Luma for web also knowing blacks will be lighter and colours will be less vibrant.

Secondly as I am doing Uncompressed AVI (First Render) to .m2ts Conversion and then again taking in Vegas and patching and rendering Master Out (should take max an hour ot two now) in some format… is it advisable? Or something better can be done?
