I’m trying to put together a harness with multiple wireless cameras. I’ve got the basic setup down, but here’s what I’m missing –

Is there an input device for the Mac that’ll allow me to record more than one video input at once?

I’ve got four wireless receivers setups, each with four channels. Is there a way I can get the Mac to record all four of those channels at once?

Never heard of anything like that. How about a video deck? If they are DV cameras just get 4 Firestore drives if digitizing is the concern. I always record on tape even if I’m digitizing at the same time. If the computer drops a frame (for what ever reason) your hosed if that is your only recording.

    Hope this helps-

I’m not entirely sure why you would want to do that. You’d be looking to have all 4 cameras visble on one screen similar to a security monitoring setup? The only way and I’m really old school, would be go into some kind of switcher and create a quad split or… get a multiplexer (ikegami makes one) which will display 4 simultaneous images to one screen. The downside is, you’re then in the analog world (if it matters) and you’d have to go into the new i/o box or an aja i/o to get into the mac. Next the issue of timecode would play into it too. You weren’t specific on the end use of the config you want. You could possible go thru a DV deck to into the mac but again there’s timecode issue. Good luck – Ralph

    Thanks, guys.

I think I’m going to have to spring for a 9-line DVR Recorder, convert the streams into DVDs, then rip them onto my mac. Production time’s gonna be a bitch.

What are the camera’s? Can’t they record their own tapes?

Maybe if you shed some light on what you’re trying to do someone could help. Unless of course you have to kill us if you tell us. On the surface, it sounds like you’re trying to iso cam the cameras? I’m not really up to speed on FCP yet, ( being one of the AVID unclean )but consider this, if you’re going to do a multicam edit you might want timecode that you can preset. You’re right media management will kill on this one. One last thing, if it’s a live event why not switch it live and save all the grief

We haven’t received final approval from the clients, yet, so I’m not supposed to say exactly what it is I’m doing.

    Dammit.

No worries, e-mail me off list if you like. I have multo years experience doing live multicam events and have had to do things in all sorts of wacky ways
