  • Need help with: Separated project files with same objects – Materials

Hello! I need your help. I made a big mistake at the beginning of my project, because I forgot to make xref-files out of my objects before animating them. So state is that I have 4 separated and animated projects files containing exact same objects (huge files with many objects). So now I want to texture them. If I only assign the materials in one file, is it possible that C4D will automatically assign the materials to the same objects with exacts same name in the other files?

    Hi Laria Maria,

I don’t know if there is a way to do this automatically without using Xref-file from the beginning. maybe this is not easy for you, but you can copy and paste all the objects into the new file and then drop the materials with the selection tag one by one (I tried to explain this in the video below). Or you could bake the materials for each model, then create a single material for the required model in the new file and link it to the texture you obtained from baking previously.

    I hope this helps you.

Hi Kouraib Abdmalek. Thanks for your answer!

Maxon also answered that it’s not possible afterwards. So I guess I have to drag and drop each individual. This mistake will never happen again to me 😀
