  • Need Help capturing Video from a Beta SP to a Mac

I am new using Adobe Premiere and I need help. Due to budget cuts etc., I a now a video editor. I have Adobe Premiere CS4, and a Sony Beta deck (J-30SDI). I have an Imac 10.4 with a 2.4 Ghz Intel.

I need help getting the video form the Beta deck to capture using Adobe Premiere.

Can I just use a firewire?

Do I need an external capture card? If so, which one?

No firewire on a Beta deck – you need a special capture card – check Aja Kona and Blackmagic Decklink.

Considering you only have an iMac with no internal expansion options, I think that’d limit you to solutions like AJA’s Io.

The Sony does have a firewire connection, and it seems to be working for capturing, but now I need to export to tape using the Sony J-30SDI. When I try to export to tape using Adobe Premiere CS4 “export to tape” is grayed out. Would I need a capture card for this. It seems to capture the tape find, but can’t seem to get it to export to a tape. What am I doing wrong?
