Need app for converting XDCAM HD422 to XDCAM 420 – any ideas?
The files generated by our tapeless system are XDCAM HD422, but PPro CS5 insists on conforming all 8 tracks of audio when you import, which takes hours (literally). Adobe tells me that this problem will go away with CS6, but as a workaround in the meantime, to use XDCAM 420 instead.
Does anyone know of an app that will take an HD422 MXF and transcode it to a 420 MXF? I was hoping that perhaps Sony’s own free XDCAM Transfer tool would do it, but it refuses to import the HD422 MXFs.
I’ve used Apple Compressor to convert an HD422 file to a 420 MOV, which works perfectly in the Mac version of CS5, but the Windows version doesn’t support XDCAM in a QuickTime wrapper, and we have many more Windows than Mac seats of CS5.
Our IT guys tell me that it’s just not possible to get the tapeless system to spit out XDCAM 420 files, so we need to be able to take the HD422s and transcode them ourselves. Any ideas of a tool to do this would be gratefully appreciated!
