Need advice rendering 4:3 video to DVD in Sony Vegas 9
Hi Everyone!
Just joined this awesome site! I’ve been reading here for days but can’t seem to find the exact scenario I am in right now. Here’s the deal. I have an old Sony Handycan camcorder from 2055ish. Obviously it uses tape and shoots in 4:3. So I import all my raw footage to my computer as AVI. I import the clips into Sony Vegas 9 to edit them. I am making editing my film in pieces (which presents another question I will get to) and will combine everything all at once.
So my question is this…I rendered my project in Vegas 9 as a wmv. I then import that wmv to my DVD authoring program which is TMPGenc Authoring Works. Then I make a DVD. I did this last night and although it came out pretty well, it seems to be grainier than the original video file. The obvious thing I tried first was to simply use my widescreen TV remote to set my TV display to 4:3 to accommodate the 4:3 aspect ratio…creating the pillar bars obviously. However, even then the picture doesn’t look as clear. Now I initially rendered the Sony Vegas project using whatever the default setting are. Already I notice one of the options called “Full resolution rendering quality” is set to only “good” and not “best.” Is there a reason why it wouldn’t default to “best” and will changing that help? Also I would like to know what other setting I should adjust and change from the default settings. Also, as I mentioned, there are some short scenes I created in a separate project that I rendered to wmv and imported into my final project (the timeline in the final project is too long to do the kind of effects I need to do, thus I opened a new project for these short scenes.) Now I read something about “nesting” where instead of rendering those separate small projects to wmv and importing them to my final project timeline…that I could simply import the actual project file and (I assume) save a generational quality loss.
So I could use some guidance if possible! I appreciate your help in advance and I am so glad I found this site! I have spent hours reading through different things here and there sure is a lot of new stuff to learn! Anyway, thanks all! My name is Lou by the way!
