Need advice on re-capturing project
Hello, fellow grazers! Need a solution to a problem where my lazyness got me into trouble…
Did a multi-cam project recently that was both quick/cheap and not resume-worthy, so I went about capturing the tapes (via DV/FW) using Capture Now from the start of the tape (think 00:00:01;00 – I know, you’re already ahead of me). Edited, exported, burnt, and then deleted source files, archiving the project. Not being anything special, I didn’t make a DVD master and just kept the original tapes. Low/behold, client needs more discs. Went back to import footage and ran into pre-roll issue on all tapes. Now, the earliest part of each tape that’s used in the project is 20 seconds in, so if I can get FCP to start at that point I’m good, but it will not bring in any footage as the master clips all start from the very beginning of the tape.
Is there a way I’m not aware of where I can either change the start point of the master clips or just bring in the specific clips in the timeline. I’m really hoping I don’t have to go back to Mr. Client w/ tail between my legs & ask for a copy of the disc like the idiot I am? Pre-thanks!

make a new project.
copy the original offline master clips into it
capture now again into this new project.if you have MORE media than you need you;re OK
if you have LESS, then it’s a worry.
you could REBUILD them using the original clips as a guide.
re-build a copy of them in a new sequence, adding slug at the head to pad to size.
change the seq TC to match that of the original clip.
EXPORT,
re-iport & add a reel # (you could also fix the TC now rather than before if you like)now you can go back to your original project and connect to the new “Frankenstein” clips
and never use capture now again!
(without art least leaving more than 3 seconds handle) -
ANOTHER way:
work out howe much media you are missing from hte head of the clip on hte new capture.
write donw notes for EACH clip detailing this amountreconnct, ignore all warning.
FCP will connect the clips form hte head.
in your cut, slip each clip by the amount noted.cheers,

Thanks for your suggestions. The second one seems to work in this case, and, for whatever reason, I didn’t have to do any slip editing! Really should have thought of something like that sooner – just got the whole reel in and reconnected the media…pretty simple.
