Need advice on printing capabilities for vhs and dvd
Hello all
Long time cow user/supporter first time visiting this forum
well just got a new job woohoo on a college campus in Ohio so I need some help with a few things
just a quick background on me, I worked for 3 years in corporate video in Connecticut for a marketing reasearch company
my current position is to tape/archive/distribute various events, distance learning etc that happens here on campus
what I would like to know is are any of you using anything special for your vhs labels in terms of a program/printer combination and what are you using to label dvd’s ( iknow epson makes a printer that can label dvd’s directly)

For DVDs I use the Epson R200. Does a great job, for a decent price.
For VHS tapes, I bought Avery VHS spine labels and print them out in MS Word. -
We’re using a Sony DVD writer for ‘master’ DVD’s taken from tape, and a Primera Bravo II system. It’s fairly idiot proof (and I can be a pretty big idiot…) and has worked almost flawlessly since November…

I use the UAL Version of Sure Thing CD labeler for my Beta, DVCPro, and VHS labels. I have an Epson R200 with the Print CD software that came with it for my CD and DVD labels. We create some things directly in the programs and some in Photoshop then transfer the files into these programs for final sizing and positioning. I have very good results with these, and the Sure Thing Label software is customizable to easily get labels from different places and make minor adjustmenst to fit them.

At work we use primera bravo 2 for printing to disks,will handle production and duplication of up to 50 at a time, and A dynamo label maker for spline and face labels for vhs, it prints individual labels. at home I use epson R200 for printing to disks. I Like all of the above.

Thought I would add a question that may not apply but I just can not figure out. Why do Canon Pixma printers not support CD/DVD printing in the US? All oversees models do but they opted not to use them in this country? Any thoughts?
So I was thinking of the Epson since it seems to be my only choice and am looking at the R800? User thoughts? -
Love the r800 for all my printing. I should keep track of the quantity of prints, seems to use lots of ink; fortunately you can replace each of the 8 inks independently. About 1.3 minutes per disc print in high quality.
included software great for most work, higher end design is done in Illustrator/Photoshop and placed in the template. for vhs I set up a template in Illustrator and get matte labels from http://www.polylinecorp.com, $14/100 sheets compared to $55 for avery.

If you want a higher quality look and use lots of graphics on your lables, Professional Label has glossy inkjet face and spine labels that are reasonably priced. They look great off your inkjet. I have the Epson 960 and it has been a workhorse for a year and a half now.
