  • need advice on a good Firewire 800 PCI card

Just got off the phone with M-Audio tech support, and they tell me that my ProjectMix I/O (which I’m using as an audio input and controller device for Logic, Soundtrack Pro, and Final Cut Pro) MUST be plugged directly into the my G5’s rear firewire 400 port. Furthermore, they tell me that I should NOT have anything else plugged into the FW ports (neither the front 400 port or the rear 800 port). This apparently will provided the best control and quality over the ProjectMix I/O.

Okay, great. So how then do I plug all my external FW drives (400 and 800) into my mac? Tech support tells me I should purchase a Firewire PCI card. Besides being a musician, I’m also a video producer/editor so throughput on my external FW drives is mission critical.

That being said, does anybody out there have sound advice a best quality firewire PCI card? The card must be compatible with a Mac G5 (dual 2.0 Ghz) and contain FW 800 ports. If it contained both 800 and 400 ports that would be ideal, as I also have a FW 400 drive and an iSight camera.

    thanks for the help
