    Hi All,
I built a simple site for a friend a few years ago using Front Page 4.
    http://www.kalvinthekamel.com
Four Java applet buttons that lead to the 4 pages and a small American flag GIF animation is as complex as it gets.
Now, when viewing the page, the navigation buttons don’t show up on my friend’s computer. They do show up on mine, but the GIF anim no longer works.
I viewed the source and the code seems to be there.
    We’re both using IE6.
Nothing on the site has been changed in quite a while.
What can I do to fix those applets so the buttons work again?

I really appreciate your help on this one.

    TIA
    Ken

    hello…

works here as well. your friend may no longer have the jre (java runtime environment) installed on his/her computer, which would mean that they have no way to run applets…

    Thanks for the reply Curtis.
How would I get/re-install the Java component-and-could the IE5 to IE6 upgrade have caused the problem?

-AND- Is that related to the non-playing GIF anim issue?

    Thanks again,

    Ken

    hello…

java.sun.com has the jre, although i would have them try any other site with a java applet first to verify that this could be the culprit….

as for the gif…it’s really impossible to say from my vantage point as to why a gif won’t play on that computer…it’s a file format that’s been around for years and there is no way that you can “disable” gifs playing in your preferences, so it sounds more like maybe something is not right with their browser/computer… :-/

    Thanks Curtis,
The JRE windows component won’t download from the Sun site…errors out.
I checked another site using the same button applet; it doesn’t work either.

I’m going to download the whole java package for W2k from their site, perhaps the whole thing will install from a “saved to disk” file.

    Thanks again,
    Ken
