Natural Page Peel Effect on Photos
Hi Guys,
I’m trying to generate a kind of page peel effect on old photos. You know, when they are lying around for some years and the edges start to lift a bit. But, without (!!!) the PAGE TURN effect, which does not look naturally on the photos.
Any suggestions how to achieve the effect? I’ve been playing around with the edge displacement, which works a little bit, but not fully — the edges are not “rolling”.
Ideally, that effect would cause a natural shadow in 3D as well. Not the Drop Shadow, but a shadow casted by light, where the edges of the shadow blur out and fade as further they are away from the edge of the photo.
I’ve been looking for tutorials on YouTube, but they all use CC PAGE TURN.

I think CC Page Turn can be worked on to get quite a natural look. You probably need to keyframe the lighting to move as the page does and change a bunch of other settings too.
If you’re dead set against using it, why not film an actual piece of paper and peel that. Then you can use an animated mask to on it to act as a wipe for your photo.
If you don’t want your hand in the way, you could try holding the page corner and then dropping it. And then reversing the shot. If you can film at a high-frame rate, you’ll probably get a better result too.
