  Native Resolution Monitoring from BMCC – Necessary? Possible?

  Hello all,

  So I’ve been thinking about the best way to monitor BMCC footage for grading and screening and I find it interesting that even Blackmagic’s new UltraStudio 4K cannot output the BMCC’s native resolution. Of course, 2.5K is not really a standard but might there be a situation where we would want to output at native resolution?

  But furthermore, and specifically for grading, would native monitoring be really necessary? Flanders Scientific’s highest resolution monitor is 1920×1200 so anything higher than HD is scaled anyway.

  I was just thinking about how 2.5K “fits” and would love to hear some thoughts from others.
