Just a note about warranty service for all of you who’ve purchased Panasonic Pro monitors.

In Dec 2006, I purchased a Pany Pro 42″ plasma, and Panasonic at that time was offering a free 5-year extended warranty as an incentive.

Well, after three plus years of perfect operation, yesterday my Pany Pro developed a big problem that will undoubtedly require full replacement of the panel.

I spent nearly two hours today on the phone speaking with an entire multitude of Pany reps and operators trying to get the warranty service approved. Of course, no one at Panasonic had any idea what I was talking about, and they kept telling me that the monitor only came with a one year warranty.

However, I stuck to my guns, and I thankfully was able to find the original documentation as well. And so it appears that, even after more than three years, my Pany Pro is going to get fixed or possibly even replaced.

So, the moral is, keep all your paperwork and don’t let big brother try to put you down.

    Amen to that.

For big stuff (workstations, monitors, AJA boxes, etc.), I tape a small envelope containing a photocopy of the warranty papers to the back, side, or bottom of the box.

The best way to keep my sanity :O).

Warranty has always been an issue for me David.
Only a year or two ago did Apple start honouring Service Care agreements in Cyprus. Before that you would have to ship your kit at your own expense to Ireland or Greece for Service Care work or pay for the fixes locally out of your own pocket. You still can’t buy Service Care locally but at least now Apple will support it on the island if you purchase Service Care from other countries. Thankfully 1 year warranty is covered on the island at no expense, but my experience with Apple tends to be that nothing goes wrong in the first 12 months!
There are no LaCie or Epson service providers in Cyprus either so again it’s up to us to ship it to the nearest covered country for repair at our own expense. (Even if the faulty kit is under warranty) Or you take it back to the point of sale which again, is usually not in Cyprus as prices are way over the odds here on a lot of pro kit.

The fun of living on a rock in the Med I guess!

Stories like David’s are far too common. My experience has always been to work thru your equipment rep for items like these. They have records on everything you purchase and will fight for your rights if need be. That is if you have a good rep.
