Making a simple 30 sec spot. Place the media from one clip on the timeline. Split the scenes to take out some rough spots. Add a couple of JPG’s from the snap shot feature for a filler. Add a few transitions, but no FX. Insert video track and an empty event. Drag BCC7 3D Extruded text from the plug in manager to the event…

Whoop, Whoop, Whoop!!! Red Preview Screen…Whoop, Whoop, Whoop!!! Desktop fades to white w/spinning blue pointer

Someone else will need to write about this but I’m pretty sure your problem is the extruded text from BCC7. Sounds like you might have a video card issue. Have you been successfully using this feature or is this the first time?

Yea Mike you’ve been having a lot of trouble with your graphics card and BCC7. If I remember correctly you updated your drivers and it was working. What happened? What graphics card are you using?

You are right John. I did get the latest upgrades. My card is a Nvidia GeForce 9300GE. It was working OK, but still has some issues. It seems whenever I use BCC7 I run into problems. The 3D stuff by itself or if I add more than a couple of the other FX to one event. I didn’t even get to a 1/3 of the FX yet. I have a feeling I’ll be getting some more surprises along the way.

I put a few bucks I really don’t have into this thing and so far it looks like I have to put in a lot more to get it right. I really hoped that adding more memory and the Windows 64 bit would cure the ills. Maybe an upgrade of the video card is the answer. I don’t know. What would be a good card? Maybe one with dual monitor support. Might as well go get a loan or sell the farm to get it right.

If BOAT mean break out another thousand what would Video Editing mean?

[Mike Hinkel] “My card is a Nvidia GeForce 9300GE.”

With all due respect, that’s a pretty anemic graphics card. The NVidia site only lists specs back to the GeForce 9400 series and they are pretty minimal.

I use an NVidia 9800GT and it works pretty well as you can see in my tutorials. They are only $99 so it shouldn’t break the bank.

Just for comparison, the 9400GT only has 16 CUDA Cores and a Texture Fill Rate of 4.4 (billion/sec). The 9800GT has 128 CUDA Cores and a Texture Fill Rate of 43.2 (billion/sec). Quite a jump in performance.

Thanks John. The card came with the computer and really had no problems until I put BCC7 to it. I probably should have read into the system requirements a little deeper than taking Boris’s line as good to go:

Almost any graphics card released during the past three years will provide the features necessary to run OpenGL-accelerated Boris Continuum Complete filters

I imagine I’ll be applying the upgrade here at some point in the near future. I only hope that it remedies the situation. I have been saying “what next” way too much lately.

Well… the Boris quote is technically correct. Your card does have the features to run the software. It just doesn’t do it very well. It’s like Sony saying that Vegas Pro can run on a 2Ghz computer. In can… but nobody would actually want to.

Technically yes, but ethically is it wrong to make such statements if the manufacturers know what might not work going in? This is where I have a problem with all of this. At every turn it seems you are expected to throw money at whatever it might be for a fix. My bad for believing and taking them for their word while I was giving them my money.
