Our dual 2.5 G5 in our primary HD suite died. It was only 1.5 years old.

Apple can not fix it. The replaced the power supply, the logic board and the processors. Nothing!

They are offering us a new Mac Pro but of course my Black Magic Decklink Pro HD PCI-X card will not work in the Mac Pro nor will my scsi UL4D card for my Huge storage or my SATA card for the SATA raids.

So here I am sitting on a capture card that I spent $2000 for, an ATTO UL4D that cost $495 and a Multibridge that cost another $2000 with a brand new MacPro that can’t do anything unless I purchase all new cards from either Black Magic or AJA. We would have to spend at least $3500 to get an HD system back and running and then be sitting on $4500 dollars worth of stuff that has little resell value on ebay and that will only work on G5.

This really sucks. Even if we buy a used Dual G5 I still have to spend at least $2500 to get something decent and used that may or may not have apple care.

AGHHHHHHH. Thanks for letting me vent! We have been limping along with our other suite with the Black Magic Extreme, on a G4. Thank god it was Thanksgiving last week and not so many clients.

boy, does this say it all, or what ! What the HELL does this mean – they can’t fix it. I feel your pain. You should go up the ladder to Apple corporate and complain. There is no way that they changed the power supply, logic board and RAM,and it still does not boot up (I can only assume you don’t have a simple drive issue).

Worst case, you should be able to find a used dual 2.7 Gig G5 -it’s a great computer – unfortunately not with great support.

Don’t give up with bitching to Apple. In the mean time, get a used dual 2.7.

Its Moores law. 18 months. 1.5 years. Go buy new. #x# the earth. I could probably fix your machine, and they can’t???? Go figure. I wish you well, but I think you know the answer. Ebay, or find some good local service. Zelin is right.

take the mac pro, and find a reseller that will trade you for a new g5 they didn’t sell
