Has anyone had any success using the zero latency monitoring feature of a MXL Tempo microphone in conjunction with Audition CC? I have been able to use it but the volume is extremely low and no matter what I do I can’t get it louder. I’ve got a pretty powerful machine (win 7 64 bit Xeon 8 core) 8 GB of RAM and a SoundBlaster Z audio card. If anyone has any tips on how to make this work I would greatly appreciate it. If I don’t mind terrible latency, I can get decent volume.

Have you checked the gain settings for your SoundBlaster card, as well as any Windows input levels (which should be bypassed by the drivers for the SoundBlaster card). It may be just a matter of kicking up the gain on your input before it gets to Audition.

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I’ve tried all the gain settings. If I crank the input level via the Windows control, it’s way distorted. The output settings are all cranked too. Unless there is a way to crank the input level via windows and then dial it down post input. Not sure how to do this or if it can be done. BTW I’m only recording voice overs.

Have you gone into the Windows Sound settings in the Control Panel to check the setup there? It’s the only other thing I can think of that might be the culprit. Here’s some info on it, which may or may not apply to your particular issues – I hope it helps – Scroll down to “Microphone Volume is Too Low”:
