.MXF in QT
Posted by Ashley Mcpike on August 13, 2009 at 2:14 pmI can view .MXF files on my MacBook Pro 15 with Intel Dual Core Processor laptop using Quicktime 7.6+. My co-worker who is using a power PC cannot view the .MFX in Quicktime 7.6+. We both have OSX 10.4.11. How can he view .MFX files in Quicktime using his power PC?

August 13, 2009 at 3:10 pmYou need an MXF component to watch MXF files.
What format is the MXF, DV, DV50, HD, Avid?

August 13, 2009 at 3:19 pmIf you install P2CMS, then it can open the MXF files in QT…and if you want import them into FCP to be used natively. But it doesn’t tie video and audio together. If you want native MXF support that does that, you need MXF2QT, Calibrated or Raylight.

August 13, 2009 at 4:20 pmWill any of those work on a Power PC Shane? I know the Calibrated Software solution is Intel only.

August 13, 2009 at 4:47 pmWell, MXF4QT doesn’t say…as far as I can see:
Raylight is both…

August 13, 2009 at 5:31 pmDo all the of the raylight software cost money? I don’t understand why I would have to buy the software for my PowerPC but I did not have to for my laptop. Does my laptop have some special built-in software to make QT read the .MXF files?

August 13, 2009 at 5:34 pmNO…nothing built in will allow you to see the files. But, AGAIN, I will ask…does the other machine have P2CMS installed? That allows you to view the MXF files natively.

August 13, 2009 at 5:46 pmYes, my MacBook Pro has the P2CMS software on it, but is there anyway I can get that same software on my PowerPC with having to buy it, since I didn’t have to buy that software for my MacBook Pro?

August 13, 2009 at 5:54 pmI used a Panasonic HD HPX 500 Camera and we shoot the footage in 720P onto a 16GB P2 card.
